However, older studies showed that it may not be the alcohol itself, but rather components of the red wine that confer the benefits.

Experts have been investigating how wine protects the brain. Studies have shown that Alzheimer’s disease could be delayed by drinking red wine. It is believed that the compounds that are left after the wine has passed through the gut have a positive effect in the brain function.
